What an exciting time! You have thought about it, researched, debated, and decided that an English Golden Retriever puppy is right for you. We are so glad you are considering Boise Goldens for your next friend. Here is a more detailed version of our adoption process.

Step 1:
Application

If you are interested in learning more about our dogs or reserving a puppy for an upcoming litter, please first fill out our Puppy Application.

We care deeply about every puppy we raise and will always advocate for their wellbeing. Because of this, it states in our contract that if for any reason you cannot keep or can no longer care for the puppy, you MUST contact us FIRST if the dog needs to be re-homed. We will always help you re-home a dog, no matter the circumstances. It is our goal that no puppy of ours will EVER end up in a rescue or shelter situation.

Our application process requires you to agree with our contract ahead of time. Please be sure to read it completely and ask any questions prior to completing your application. We are always here to help you make the best decision for you and your future pet. Our site has other information in this regard as well.

Step 2:
Approved! General Reservation or Contact List?

Yay! You have been approved. It’s time to decide if you are ready for our Contact List or Waitlist.

Our Contact List is a way for an approved applicant to be notified before the general public when a mama is in heat, pregnant, the litter is born, and when the litter is about to be open for Gender Reservations at two weeks old. There is no cost to be added to this list, but also no guarantee of puppies being available when they are two weeks old! Let us know if this is the best choice for you.

Are you ready to fully commit to an upcoming litter? Getting on our General Reservation List for a specific litter requires a non-refundable (generally—see below), non-transferable deposit of $500. You are committing to the litter and you give us your gender preference. There are two ways you will receive a refund: 1) if the litter doesn’t happen (mama doesn’t get pregnant), OR 2) there are not enough of the gender you have specified with your reservation for you to get one and you are unwilling to take the other gender. We accept up to six General Reservation List applicants prior to the puppies being two weeks old. You may pay deposits by cash or Venmo.

Step 3:
Gender Reservation List

At the two-week mark we open up our Gender Reservation List, where approved applicants can reserve an available gender slot for picking a specific puppy at week six. Our General Reservation List people get first selection (in order of the list) of their preferred gender. If we still have puppies available after the General Reservation List has selected their choices, new applicants can reserve an available gender slot with a $500 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit. At this point you are guaranteed a puppy (barring acts of God) of your desired gender from this litter! Follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to see lots of pictures and videos and watch them grow!

Step 4:
Puppy Selection

At six weeks old we will have completed temperament testing and early training, and we will work with you to match the perfect puppy for you! By now we have spent lots of time with each puppy and are able to tell you a lot about their personalities and traits. If time and schedules allow, you may be able to visit our home to make a decision on which puppy will be yours. We’ll make sure you are well informed and prepared to bring your Boise Goldens puppy home before the big day!

Step 5:
Puppy Pick-Up Day

Puppy pick up day is a very special day. We will be contacting you and scheduling a time that works best for you to pick up your new puppy.  We will then provide you with a "puppy folder" and all sorts of other wonderful information and gifts to get you off to the best start possible. Your puppy will be freshly bathed, very familiar with a crate, and ready to become part of your family! Each puppy comes with:

  • Dewclaws removed

  • A first vet visit with a clean bill of health

  • First deworming

  • First set of puppy vaccines - your vet will continue the series

  • Microchipping completed

  • Puppy vet record

  • AKC limited registration paperwork

  • Baggie of current food

  • 10 day supply of NuVet vitamins (our required vitamins per our contract)

We are often asked what you should bring. Some good items to bring to your pick-up day include:

  • collar

  • leash

  • crate

  • towel (it’s common for puppies to experience motion sickness in the car)

  • water and food dish depending on how far you will drive home

  • puppy pads for a long drive

  • bully stick

  • chew toys

  • your phone and/or camera to capture the special moment

  • cash or cashier’s check to pay the remaining balance
