First Time Puppies: Week 5

Moving. Always. Moving. The puppies are very active at this stage. Running from here, to there. Being mischievous and getting into everything! But they also are recognizing us and running just to see us and lick everyone all over. So that makes up for the stinky moments.

We have found it crucial to have a schedule at this point. For the most part, here is the schedule our puppies are on:

  • 5:30AM - Wake up (yep, it hurts every day!)

  • Potty immediately.

  • Awake 20-30 minutes

  • Potty

  • Awake 20-30 minutes

  • Back to sleep (maybe potty If they are restless)

  • Sleep 1-2 hours

  • Repeat

  • Last potty at 10PM, stay in pen for night with water

The puppies are also doing great with playing with their mama. It is really cute to see them interact more than just feeding. Perhaps that is increasing because we have begun to help our dam wean? It is hard to know exactly when to start, but we have begun that process this week. At the end of the week our dam is only feeding them twice a day, and we are shooting for her to be done before too many more days. We are stepping her down to help prevent mastitis and discomfort.

Training is at full speed, with clicking for manding, potty training, and general experiences. They even got their first Pup-Cup at our local Starbucks this week!

We continue to weigh, clip nails, and do the general puppy care. They are getting super fluffy and may need a second bath soon. Super sweet and fun!
